Are Rx Price Controls Good for Your Health?, The Manhattan Institute, Medical Progress Report, Dec. 2004; No. 1

In this study conducted by Vernon, Santerre, and Giaccotto of the Center for Health Care and Insurance Studies and the University of Connecticut Business School, the authors find that imposing price controls will reduce investment in R&D and lead to a loss of life and life expectancy. They suggest that informed public policy debate should consider the trade-off between lower drug prices now and future health benefits lost because of lower R&D spending.
