Bringing Science to Life in Our Schools

Pfizer offers much more to schools than financial assistance. Our employees — who have a wealth of expertise, talent, commitment and passion for science and learning — volunteer their time at local schools. Pfizer also provides partner schools with lab equipment and supplies and the use of facilities. And several Pfizer sites train and employ science teachers during the summer, offering lab experience and help in adapting lab content into classroom activities. Pfizer's education programs are designed to build teachers' capacity to teach science and to generate excitement in the classroom. The success of our educational initiatives is attributable to the talented individuals who participate in the partnerships between Pfizer and the schools — employees, teachers, administrators and parents.

The Pfizer Education Initiative (PEI)

Goal: To work with schools in communities where Pfizer colleagues live and work, helping to revitalize science and math programs and enrich the learning experience of all involved

Our Partners: The more than 1,700 Pfizer employees — from scientists and engineers to manufacturing workers and support staff — who serve as volunteers in the program

Successes: In its first decade of operation, the PEI created school partnerships in 20 Pfizer communities, resulting in the training of thousands of teachers and the creation of 18 new or renovated science labs.

Science in the Schools

Goal: To build partnerships between Pfizer, our colleagues, and local governments and organizations to improve education in communities around the world

Our Partners: Pfizer Colleagues, the Pfizer Foundation and local partners including Dr. Cesar A. Rey, Puerto Rico Secretary of Education, the Puerto Rico Manufacturing Association, Puerto Rico Chamber of Commerce and the Pharmaceutical Industry Association, the Irish Centre for Talented Youth and Dublin City University

Successes: Pfizer and our partners have helped to improve education in Puerto Rico by building fully-equipped science labs and math classrooms, training local science teachers, and developing an initiative to encourage other corporations and individuals to partner with local schools. In New York City, we are providing grants to help teachers study science in order to bring innovative knowledge and technologies into their classrooms. And, in Ireland, we are helping to fill the gap in a country with no science museum and limited lab resources by encouraging science learning in the traveling laboratory onboard the Pfizer Science Bus.
